The Consul General hosted a reception ahead of the upcoming COP17 Conference to be held in Armenia

The Consulate General of the Republic of Armenia in Los Angeles, jointly with the California Global Biodiversity Alliance, hosted a reception at the Consulate dedicated to the 17th meeting of the Conference of the Parties (COP17) to the UN Convention on Biological Diversity, which will take place in Yerevan in October.

The Alliance is coordinating the organizational arrangements for the participation of the U.S. delegation (which icludes broader US and California Subnational and local governments, NGOs, universities, research institutions, environmental organizers, youth leaders and other stakeholders)traveling to Armenia for COP17.

The event was attended by members of the California State Assembly and the Los Angeles City Council, the Mayor of Glendale, as well as representatives of Los Angeles’s business and academic communities, civil society and the Armenian community.

Consul General Anna Avetisyan briefed participants on Armenia’s preparations for COP17, the priorities and vision guiding Armenia’s Presidency and the country’s rich and unique biodiversity.

Consul General underscored Armenia’s commitment to ensuring that COP17 is an inclusive, transparent and substantive international forum, characterized by the meaningful and active engagement of all relevant stakeholders.

In her remarks, the Consul General also highlighted the importance of expanding cooperation with California in the field of biodiversity.

Rosalind Helfand, Co-Founder of the Alliance, presented main priorities related to the participation of the U.S. delegation in various events planned within the framework of COP17 and expressed her readiness to support stakeholders interested in participating in COP17.
