CONSUL GENERAL OF ARMENIA IN LOS ANGELES AMBASSADOR ARMEN BAIBOURTIAN MET WITH THE SPEAKER OF THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE STATE OF WASHINGTON LAURIE JINKINS

GLENDALE – On March 30, Consul General of Armenia in Los Angeles Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary Armen Baibourtian held a virtual meeting with the Washington State House of Representatives Speaker Laurie Jinkins. The meeting was also attended by Alex MacBain, Chief of Staff at Washington House Democratic Caucus.

Ambassador Baibourtian presented some key points relating to the country of Armenia to Speaker Jinkins focusing on specific historical milestones, external and domestic political and economic landscape. A special reference was made to the Armenian Diaspora as being an integral part of the Armenian nation. Taking into account the fact that the State of Washington stands out for its significant achievements in the field of high- technologies, A. Baibourtian presented to Laurie Jinkins Armenia’s great potential in high-tech and IT, and Armenia's interest in developing cooperation in that sphere. The interlocutors also touched upon the prospects and opportunities of cooperation in the manufacturing sectors of transportation equipment, food processing, metals and metal products, chemicals, and machinery. They also discussed agriculture in the similar context. Ambassador Armen Baibourtian stressed on the successful experience of Washington State in legislative regulation in the aforementioned sectors, which is of paramount importance for Armenia.

The Speaker of the House of Representatives expressed willingness to initiate such a cooperation transferring relevant concepts and programs into the practical field. The participants of the meeting agreed to continue their practical discussions during the Consul General’s possible forthcoming visit to the State of Washington, the timeframe of which would depend on the pandemic situation.

Speaker Jinkins is a member of the Democratic Party. She made history on January 13, 2020 when she became Washington state’s first woman Speaker of the House. She represents the 27th Legislative District.
