International Women's Day

Consulate General in cooperation with the Armenian International Women Association (AIWA) celebrated International Women's Day on March 8 at the Consulate. More than 100 Armenian women involved in social, charitable and cultural activities of the community were invited to the festive gathering.
The President of AIWA Nichole Nishanian welcomed attendees, congratulated and wished them further success and happiness. Silva Khatchigian, Chair of AIWA LA spoke about women’s significant role in life, underlined their activities and stressed the importance of women's rights.
Consul Armella Shakaryan in her speech emphasized political, social and economic achievements of women and their contribution to the advancement of the society. She also noted that along with the traditional areas women in Armenia have begun to play a serious role in entrepreneurship, journalism, governance, high tech, judicial and other areas, including the Armed Forces and that without a doubt they will continue to expand current success and will deservedly occupy a greater place in the political life as well. Consul also expressed her gratitude to the participants on behalf of the women of Armenia for continuous support and dedication to the Homeland.
Consulate General, LA County Supervisors Office and California State Senator Anthony Portantino presented Armenian women serving in local government with the certificates of appreciation.
Singers Narek Makaryan and Mister X as well as the Grand Stage Dance Ensemble performed during the event.
