The Book of Whispers

On March 5th the Consulate General of Armenia in cooperation with the Armenian-Romanian Cultural Association initiated the meeting with the Romanian-Armenian writer, Romanian Senator Varujan Vosganian at the Glendale Public Library. The English version of the well-known novel "The Book of Whispers" was presented during the evening. In his book the author describes the tragedy of the Armenian Genocide and historical events on the example of his own family. The ‘’Book of Whispers’’was translated into 22 languages and presented in more than 50 countries, bringing worldwide recognition and numerous international awards to the author. He was nominated from 2013-2015 for Nobel Prize in Literatureon behalf of the Writers’ Unions of Armenia, Romania and Israel. The book was first published in Romania in 2009 and was recognized as the best book of the year.
During his meeting with the Armenian community of LA, Varujan Vosganian presented the history behind the book as well as the unwillingly undertaken mission due to translation to different languages.
Consul Armella Shakaryan presented Varujan Vosganian with the certificate of appreciation from the Consulate General of Armenia for the significant contribution to the international recognition and condemnation of the Armenian Genocide.
On March 6th Book of Whispers was presented at the Museum of Tolerance in LA. Consuls General of Romania and Japan in Los Angeles as well asthe representatives of Jewish, Romanian and Armenian communities were among the guests.
After the author’s presentation A.Shakaryan expressed the Consulate’s gratitude to Varujan Vosganian for visiting Los Angeles and presenting the ‘’Book of the Whispers’’ to the readers of different nations, thus spreading the Armenian Genocide awareness and demanding condemnation.
At the end of the meeting the author answered the questions of the audience, including witnesses of the Holocaust. The book signing ceremony concluded the evening.
