Armenian Mexican Cultural Week

On February 2nd, the Los Angeles City Council, led by Councilmembers Monica Rodriguez and Paul Krekorian, adopted a Resolution during a Council Presentation declaring February 2-9 as Mexican Armenian Cultural Week in the City of Los Angeles. During her address, Councilmember Rodriguez noted that this initiative aims to develop intercultural dialogue and acknowledge the rich cultural and historical heritage of the two communities living in Los Angeles. The Ambassador of the Republic of Armenia to the United States Grigor Hovhannissian stated in his speech that relations with the Mexican and the Latino communities are significant both within the community and in the international context. He also highlighted the importance of cooperation not only between the Republic of Armenia and Latin American countries but also between their diaspora communities in the United States at a regional level.
Mexico's Consul General in Los Angeles, Carlos Eugenio Garcia De Alba Zepeda, highlighted the importance of holding joint economic and cultural projects with different community members and added that Mexican Armenian Cultural Week is the second joint initiative of the parties after a business seminar which was organized last year. The Consul General emphasized that such joint efforts create a bridge between the two states, governments and peoples. Within the framework of Mexican Armenian Cultural Week, the Mexican Consulate General will host the screening of "The Promise" movie for the Mexican community and the Armenian Consulate will organize the screening of “The Student” Mexican movie for the Armenian community. A joint cultural event is also organized by both Consulate Generals at two public schools in Los Angeles where students from both communities form a substantial part of the student body.
Photo exhibitions of Armenian and Mexican photographers is also organized within the framework of Mexican Armenian Cultural Week.
