"The Promise" screened for foreign diplomats

The Consulate General of the Republic of Armenia in Los Angeles in collaboration with the Community Affairs Council organized a screening of the "The Promise" for foreign diplomats and international organizations at UCLA James Bridge Theater. A number of diplomats, heads of international human rights organizations, scholars, professors and representatives of The Promise Institute for Human Rights at UCLA School of Law were among the attendees.

Consul Armella Shakaryan made the welcoming remarks and introduced the history behind the movie. She emphasized in her speech that due to the joint efforts of the Republic of Armenia and the Diaspora a significant progress has been recorded in the process of international recognition and condemnation of the Armenian Genocide. She also mentioned a strong advocacy and constant efforts of the Armenian-American Community that contributed to it.

Asli U. Bali, the director of The Promise Institute for Human Rights at UCLA School of Law, noted that the institute aims to embody the vision of the film and educate the next generation of human rights lawyers who would pursue justice and accountability.

Keith S. Parker, the Assistant Vice Chancellor of UCLA welcomed the initiative and said he was proud to have the movie screening at UCLA. He emphasized that history could not be suppressed; on the contrary, it should be addressed and assured that it will not happen again.

Following the screening of the movie, the associate producer of the movie, Carla Garapedian, talked about the making of “The Promise”.
