Tens of thousands rally in Los Angeles to commemorate Armenian genocide

On April 24, the Armenian community of Los Angeles again stood up: tens of thousands Armenians participated in the protest organized by community organizations. It took off from the heart of Hollywood in Little Armenia district. Unified Young Armenians organized a protest march of symbolical 1.5 miles demanding condemnation of the Armenian Genocide, as well as recognition of Artsakh Independence.

As it was every year, this year as well American representatives of the federal, state and municipal authorities joined the protestors. The Consul General of Armenia to Los Angeles Sergei Sarkisov with his family members was among them.

During the second half of the day, the Armenian community raised its voice in protest in Wilshire Boulevard, in front of the Turkish Consulate in Los Angeles. According to the city police, more than 60 thousand people were present. The overwhelming presence of youth galvanized the crowd, which loudly and resolutely demanded justice for the Armenian Genocide from the Turkish government with a resounding commitment to continue the struggle for the aspirations of the Armenian people.

Several dozen federal, state and local officials chose to spend their Sunday alongside the Armenian-American community and joined them in rallying for justice.

The program included presentations from representatives Adam Schiff, Loretta Sanchez and Tony Cadenas, California State Assembly members Scott Wilk, Adrin Nazarian and Los Angeles City Council members Paul Krekorian and Paul Korets, in whose district the Rally for Justice was being held.
