10th Anniversary of Djulfa Destruction by Azerbaijan

Colorado has become the first US state to declare December 6, 2015 as the 10th Anniversary of Djulfa Destruction by Azerbaijan. Gov. Hickenlooper’s proclamation says that the state of Colorado condemns the destruction of 2000 ancient Armenian khachkars 10 years ago. The deliberate destruction of the world's largest collection of medieval khachkars at Djulfa is a fact, which has been documented by the American Association for the Advancement and Science. The proclamation mentions the 100th anniversary of the Armenian Genocide, which was commemorated in Colorado this year by unveiling a Capitol khachkar memorial, a replica of one of Djulfar's destroyed khachkars.
Thus, Colorado has become the first state to have symbols of both Armenian Genocide and of the cultural genocide of our times. The Armenian community of Colorado organized in this park an event dedicated to the 10th anniversary of Djulfa's cultural destruction. The Governor met the Consul General of Armenia in Los Angeles after the memorial event. John Hickenlooper handed to Sergey Sarkisov the signed declaration on the anniversary of Djulfa's khachkar destruction. The meeting was attended by representatives of ANCA-WR and members of Armenian community in Colorado. The Consul General invited Mr. Hickenlooper to visit Armenia and Artsakh, and the latter accepted the invitation with pleasure.
