06 November, 2019

DENVER - On November 2, Ambassador Armen Baibourtian, Consul General of Armenia in Los Angeles participated in the 40th anniversary gala of the “Armenians of Colorado” (AOC) in Downtown Aquarium in Denver, Colorado. Ambassador Baibourtian was the honored guest and the keynote speaker at the AOC gala during his first visit to the state of Colorado. In his speech, he warmly congratulated the “Armenians of Colorado” on their 40th anniversary. Highly appreciating the work of four decade of the AOC, Dr. Baibourtian emphasized that during last years the AOC has actively initiated many cultural, educational, social, political, and charitable projects, including the opening of the Saturday school. The installation of the memorial khachkar dedicated to the Armenian Genocide Centennial on the grounds of the Colorado State Capitol in 2015 has a great significance. Ambassador Baibourtian emphasized that new programs to be launched will be in the center of attention of the Consulate General of Armenia enjoying its support. Some of those are aimed to connect the Armenian community of Colorado with the homeland. The event was attended by Dominick Moreno, Colorado State Senator, and Daneya Esgar, member of the State House of Representatives who visited Armenia in July this year as part of a visit organized by the Armenian National Committee of America, Western Region.
The first Armenians settled in Colorado in the 1890s. The “Armenians of Colorado” was founded in 1979, becoming a unifying nexus for Armenians living in the state. There are 5-6 thousand Armenians residing presently in Colorado.Ambassador Baibourtian was the honored guest and the keynote speaker at the AOC gala during his first visit to the state of Colorado.
