Consulate General of Armenia in LA on April 25th hosted a meeting of RA Armed Forces officer, Major Sargis Stepanyan with community representatives. Officer briefed attendees on his years of service before and after he had been severely injured as well as the current programs of Armed Forces of Armenia.
Sargis Stepanyan was seriously wounded in the summer of 2014 while retrieving his fallen comrade under enemy fire in one of Artsakh's defense regions. He lost his two legs and right hand. Shortly after his recovery, Sargis Stepanyan was involved in arm-wrestling for disabled. He won the World Cup in 2017 as well as 2 gold and one silver medals in competitions.
Major Stepanyan’s visit to US is organized by Armenian Wounded Heroes Fund. Major spoke about his successful collaboration with the Fund and presented one of their most successful projects – starting from 2016, the soldiers of the Armenian Armed Forces are provided with a bag full of first aid supplies. Those kits are used by US Army to prevent combat deaths from extremity bleeding, lacerated lungs, and breathing difficulties caused by penetrating trauma. Thanks to AWHF the kits are being used successfully by the front line soldiers in Artsakh currently.
In the framework of cooperation with AWHF Sargis Stepanyan visits hospitals and offers his assistance to injured soldiers to overcome the rehabilitation period.
During the meeting Sargis Stepanyan was awarded with the Certificate by California State Senator Anthony Portantino.
Visiting singer from Armenia Razmik Baghdasaryan’s military song performance concluded the evening.
Officer Stepanyan will return to Armenia at the end of April.
