Consul Armella Shakaryan visited T.E. Jefferson and R.D. White elementary schools in Glendale to get acquainted with the bilingual education system, which has been successfully implemented in these schools in recent years. FLAG program offers students to study the subjects in their native language simultaneously with English and includes seven foreign languages: Armenian, French, German, Italian, Japanese, Spanish and Korean. Details of the program was introduced to the Consul by Nancy Hong, FLAG coordinator of Glendale United School District. They also discussed the necessity to continue cooperation with the Ministries of Education and Diaspora of Armenia, in the form of teachers training program as well as provision of textbooks and other educational materials.
A. Shakaryan toured the classrooms and had the opportunity to meet with the Armenian students of different ages, witness their proficiency in Armenian language, literature and history. Armenian program coordinator Miganoush Melkonian introduced the Armenian program, methods and successes to the Consulate official.
